about

I've been wanting to make a collection of songs like this for a while: no loops, everything played "live," and with only minimal edits. Primary instruments are flutes, my Korg Wavedrum, global edition, and the iPad instrument, GeoShred. The result is an expressive and dynamic mix of mysterious, atmospheric, and evocative tracks to transport the listener deep into sonic environments. Headphones are recommended . . .

Each piece is meant to be something of an auditory picture, almost as though they were captured in raw form, as opposed to a carefully polished studio track. It's my hope that the songs will evoke images in the listener's mind, taking them to different places and scenes, almost as though the songs are field-recordings or snapshots of esoteric, inner spaces.

Though most of my albums don't sound like this particular collection, this is actually much closer to what it sounds like when I play out live with my loop pedal, and rather than play with carefully arranged backing tracks, create improvised music on the fly, weaving together rich rhythms, flutes, and ambient sounds.

This collection is also something of a work of personal healing and introspection, and embodies my journey of coming back into life and being. As some reading this may know, I've had serious issues with sleep, insomnia, and sleep deprivation in 2019, and these songs is a way for me to explore what I've been going through in sonic form. There's been a lot of darkness, and hope and light, as well. As I continue on my path to recovering my ability to sleep, I'm re-exploring my relationship not only to music, but to all my endeavors and activities and overall sense of being. These songs is a way for me to ponder and ruminate on all this and find what I really want to express and embody as an artist, musician, and individual.

Instruments include: Korg Wavedrum, Global Edition, Native American flutes, ocarina, bamboo drone flute, overtone singing, vocals/chanting, didjeridu, GeoShred iPad digital instrument, vocalized bird whistles, birds, water, and other nature sounds
